In 2022, the Japan Association for the Advancement of Science (aka JAAS) has been launched!

JAAS is a non-profit organization that aims to bring together people from all walks of life, transcending the boundaries of disciplines, organizations, occupations/job classifications, nationalities/ethnicities, and generations. JAAS believe that a bright future for science in Japan requires dialogue and collaboration among people from diverse backgrounds who are motivated to promote science.

The June 18th luncheon's guest speaker is Prof. Daniel Zeifman. At age 47, he became the youngest director of the Weizmann Institute of Science in history. The Weizmann Institute ranks 6th among universities and research institutes in the world in terms of the impact of its research on industry, and its annual sales of products under licensing agreements amount to $35 billion. In this seminar, Prof. Zaifman, who insists on the importance of investing in scientists with curiosity and passion, rather than in a specific field or topic of science, joins us online from Israel. He will present an easy-to-understand strategy on how to invest money in science based on his experience of running a world-class research institute as its director, giving examples of how science and technology that are essential to our lives, such as x-rays, GPS, and electricity, have been created.

Following the luncheon are series of events such as the opening ceremony and workshops. This week-long event is for everyone who wants to energize science in Japan.
