Menahem Golan Film Festival and screening of "The Go-Go Boys”
Commemorating late Menahem Golan, a film producer and director, founder of the legendary film company "Cannon Films" who passed away last year, the retrospective <Menahem Golan Film Festival> will be held simultaneously at Cinemart Shinjuku and Cine Nouveau (Osaka).
In addition, a documentary film "The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films," which follows the life of Menahem Golan and his cousin and longtime business partner, Yoram Globus, will also be released on the road show.
Cannon Films & Golan – Globus:
Menahem Golan, founder of Cannon Films, which took Hollywood by storm in the 1980s, was born in Israel in 1929 and entered filmmaking in earnest after working as an assistant director on Roger Corman's "The Young Racer". Menahem, a producer and filmmaker, teamed up with his real-life cousin Yoram Globus to make a series of low-budget genre movies. In particular, in the late 1970s, he acquired Cannon, an independent Hollywood production company, following the huge success of films such as "Operation Thunderbolt" (1977) and "Lemon Popsicle (Eskimo Limon)" (1978). The acquisition created the Cannon Film’s empire in Hollywood as a comprehensive film company that included production, distribution, and box office. Until Menahem's sad passing in 2014, they had worked on hundreds of films. From John Cassavetes to Tobe Hooper to Sho Kosugi and Jean-Claude Van Damme, Cannon Films has gone beyond genres in all directions of the film path. The retrospective will screen 13 films from the Israeli era to the heyday of Cannon Films, plus a new documentary, "The Go-Go Boys: The inside Story of Cannon Films".

Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus are cousins from Israel. They made a huge fortune and established a new era. However, what started as a passion for film soon became in the flow of big capital, and their relationship began to crack...
